Just another leftish guy critisizing the US

Not many words in the press about this. Of course, it's not appropriate in a time where everybody happily believes Condi Rice once she has said that America is against torture. And these writers, they are all secret communists anyway.
By the way, do you really believe Condi? I don't, not a word. And what difference does it make, whether the Americans torture in Europe or in North Africa? Whether they torture themselves or let torture? It's just a matter of letting their European friends look a little better. Here it seems that nobody really wants to know. The politicians certainly not, since most probabely European governments are involved themselves. Be it just that they knew what was going on. Take Germany. It has been speaking out loud against the war in Iraq, trying to become an advocat of the peaceful, good people who fight for human rights, and peaceful means in international politics. So what if this was all fake, what if they knew a lot of what was going on? It was the red-green government, I remind you. So whom will you support in future, if you believe in the importance of justice, human rights, if you believe that even Islamists are human beings and if you are convinced that no compromise should be made there? Who is going to ask the nasty questions in the parliament? Not the Green, not the Socialists. The conservatives? They certainly wouldn't have done any better and are keen to lick Mr. Bush's shoes again. The liberals? Maybe.
What about the people in the street? There is some light outrage, but this time there were no spectacular photographs as from Abu Ghraib. And many people here are just sick of it. It's like with ecological desasters, you know they are ongoing everywhere out there, but you prefer not to think about and certainly not to take action. You risk to make yourself a fool. The normal reaction you get is: "the US doing illegal stuff?, certainly they allways have. And they are so powerful, there is nothing you can do about. They can do whatever they like." Yes, they do whatever they like.

About

My name is Magdalena Luz. I grew up in Switzerland. I studied physics at Humboldt University Berlin, where I used to live in "Nordkapstrasse" (North Cape street). That's how this blog got its name. After a short intermezzo in Copenhagen, DK, I live now in the amazing city of Wuppertal. This is a place the wild, wild West of Germany, built on 7 hills, (which is really the only thing it has in common with Rome) It is populated by the strange species of homo germanicus occidens communis, also known as 'gemeiner Wessi'. And even with her it is light years away from ever being like Berlin.
