lists

I am preparing 5 applications for PhD positions. Here's my very personal non scientific list of priorities. It's based on some things I heard people saying about the different groups and on some though very few work of some of the people I know, and on some personal prejudices about the places and countries. The only city of the five, I have ever been is Paris. Though I will go to Copenhagen next weekend.
  1. Edinburgh
  2. Copenhagen
  3. Dublin/Paris
  4.
  5. Graz
The next list is even more shaky, it's somehow reflects how high I estime the probability of getting the position. (Note that this is based on some personal conjectures only.)
  1. Graz
  2. Paris
  3. Copenhagen
  4. Edinburgh
  5. Dublin
I plan to work on these lists by finding out a bit more clearly what these people really do.

U should try geneva....

My parents would perfectly agree ;-)
I applied there indeed, but they didn't want me. (Well, it was for a Marie Curie fellowship at CERN.)

And you have to keep in mind that Voltaire once said that Geneva was the most boring city in the world. (Me I am convinced he confused it with Berne though.)

Naja, das stimmt schon, dass Genf langweilig ist.... Und Bern aber auch... sôb!

About

My name is Magdalena Luz. I grew up in Switzerland. I studied physics at Humboldt University Berlin, where I used to live in "Nordkapstrasse" (North Cape street). That's how this blog got its name. After a short intermezzo in Copenhagen, DK, I live now in the amazing city of Wuppertal. This is a place the wild, wild West of Germany, built on 7 hills, (which is really the only thing it has in common with Rome) It is populated by the strange species of homo germanicus occidens communis, also known as 'gemeiner Wessi'. And even with her it is light years away from ever being like Berlin.
