Football I

Whenever I am reluctant to work, I write some silly entries and as I try to be very up to date, I have to write about football. Honestly a better reason is that I lived 7 years in Germany and I got infected there with the football virus. I do not follow the national leagues but if there is something special around like a world cup or FC Thun in the Champions League, then I like to watch it. And I believe it is a social event. There is no point in watching it at home in front of your TV, since a big part of why it is interesting and fun, is that it moves the masses all over the world.
Or should I say I liked to watch it back in Berlin? There, during a big tournament it is hard to find a bar which does not show a soccer game. Not only now that the World Cup takes place in Germany, it used to be like this already 4 and 2 years ago. There are some very nice spots where you can watch football in a very relaxed way, with a lot of other people, mixed sexes, mixed appearance and easy going atmosphere. I must admit that I miss this here in Copenhagen. Most places that show the games are these dark, sticky-old-beer-in-the-corner Irish or English pubs where you would never set your foot on a normal day. And if you find another place, then it's empty and you feel a bit silly sitting there alone watching TV. If you are lucky there are 4 others and all of them are ... men. Stimmung? Nicht die Bohne! Everybody is silent and on his own. You can as well stay at home.
Maybe I haven't found the right place yet?

About

My name is Magdalena Luz. I grew up in Switzerland. I studied physics at Humboldt University Berlin, where I used to live in "Nordkapstrasse" (North Cape street). That's how this blog got its name. After a short intermezzo in Copenhagen, DK, I live now in the amazing city of Wuppertal. This is a place the wild, wild West of Germany, built on 7 hills, (which is really the only thing it has in common with Rome) It is populated by the strange species of homo germanicus occidens communis, also known as 'gemeiner Wessi'. And even with her it is light years away from ever being like Berlin.
