Wow, now I am online via a UMTS connection. With my current travelling back and forth through Germany,I decided to try out a real mobile Internet version. So I got a UMTS Internet flatrate from O2.
Installation on my Ubuntu laptop was very easy. I installed the UMTS Monitor from the .deb package posted by Crossbow in the Forum. (It's not in the Ubuntu repositories.) and installed the missing dependencies with
apt-get.
The UMTS monitor appears then in your menu:
applications > Internet > UMTS monitor
On startup, a window might pop up, where you can fix access permissions for a couple of applications needed by the monitor and then you have to enter to PIN of your SIM card and you can connect/disconnect via a GUI to the web.
