Online...

Wow, now I am online via a UMTS connection. With my current travelling back and forth through Germany,I decided to try out a real mobile Internet version. So I got a UMTS Internet flatrate from O2.

umtsmon Installation on my Ubuntu laptop was very easy. I installed the UMTS Monitor from the .deb package posted by Crossbow in the Forum. (It's not in the Ubuntu repositories.) and installed the missing dependencies with apt-get.

The UMTS monitor appears then in your menu:

applications > Internet > UMTS monitor

On startup, a window might pop up, where you can fix access permissions for a couple of applications needed by the monitor and then you have to enter to PIN of your SIM card and you can connect/disconnect via a GUI to the web.

About

My name is Magdalena Luz. I grew up in Switzerland. I studied physics at Humboldt University Berlin, where I used to live in "Nordkapstrasse" (North Cape street). That's how this blog got its name. After a short intermezzo in Copenhagen, DK, I live now in the amazing city of Wuppertal. This is a place the wild, wild West of Germany, built on 7 hills, (which is really the only thing it has in common with Rome) It is populated by the strange species of homo germanicus occidens communis, also known as 'gemeiner Wessi'. And even with her it is light years away from ever being like Berlin.
