Rot Weiss

On September, 14th I plan to do something I usually never do. I will watch a football game. It's just too much fun.

FC Thun against Arsenal (a dinosaur).

There have been only 3 Swiss teams in history who qualified for the Champions League: GC Zuerich (a mammut), FC Basel (an elephant) and ... FC Thun (a tiny little mouse).

LoL

"According to the ECFR paper published simultaneously this week in the International Journal Of Science and the adolescent magazine God's Word For Teens!, there are many phenomena that cannot be explained by secular gravity alone, including such mysteries as how angels fly, how Jesus ascended into Heaven, and how Satan fell when cast out of Paradise. (...)"
"Let's take a look at the evidence," said ECFR senior fellow Gregory Lunsden."In Matthew 15:14, Jesus says, 'And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.' He says nothing about some gravity making them fall—just that they will fall. Then, in Job 5:7, we read, 'But mankind is born to trouble, as surely as sparks fly upwards.' If gravity is pulling everything down, why do the sparks fly upwards with great surety? This clearly indicates that a conscious intelligence governs all falling.(...)"
Aeh, gravity acts on mass. But how for Heavens sake does Harry Potter manage to fly on a broomstick?!
The real question however is: How stupid must you be to get a degree in physics from Oral Roberts University.

nicknames

I have been collecting nicknames during all my life. Mostly because everybody thinks that "Magdalena" is just too long and also because I grew up in Bern, where it is very much unusual to call anybody by his full name. The Bernese dialect contains standardized changes to girls and boys names. Sometimes the nickname version is even longer than the original name. It's just a matter of culture. And you are immediately spotted as a snobby outsider, if you don't use them and/or think that it is a pity they make something so ugly out of such pretty names.
Anyway, I normally don't present myself by a nickname and if people ask, I tell them they should just make something up themselves. I think it's funny, even there were some I never liked.
Just to give you an idea:
Nena, Lena, Maegi, Macarena, Malule (yeah, almost like the village), Mammut, Manu, Magde, MacD...
I just want to add a new one which matches quite well: headless nick.

News of the day

If you are a waterdrop in the Spree it takes you one month to travel through Berlin.

Wow, this was a very inefficient week. I have been busy mostly with waiting for it to be over, trying to convince myself that I should be be working and that there is no point in feeling like the bitch of the day.
Not, that I haven't anything to do, the opposite is true. It would have been much more efficient if I had went on holiday somewhere.

About

My name is Magdalena Luz. I grew up in Switzerland. I studied physics at Humboldt University Berlin, where I used to live in "Nordkapstrasse" (North Cape street). That's how this blog got its name. After a short intermezzo in Copenhagen, DK, I live now in the amazing city of Wuppertal. This is a place the wild, wild West of Germany, built on 7 hills, (which is really the only thing it has in common with Rome) It is populated by the strange species of homo germanicus occidens communis, also known as 'gemeiner Wessi'. And even with her it is light years away from ever being like Berlin.
