Danish

I can't really say I fell in love with this language. I master it at a basic level and it still sounds just ugly to me. But there is one very nice thing about it: It has a real passiv form. That's probabely common to all nordic languages, but something missing in English or German. We just have this boring construction with "werden" (or "to be" in English). They also have a similar work around in Danish. The real passiv is often used when you are a bit formal, very polite, etc. But still it's beautiful:
Brød kan købes hos bageren.
What? Yes, I do like grammar. I allways did. I loved Latin back in high school...

There was a major update on the recordings page. Check it out. My personal favourite still is the maanefiskeren.

songs...

A long time ago I posted here about having a song of the weekend. Well, it's not weekend, and it's a very different style than the one there. But at the moment I really love Underwater from the new album of Clap your hands and say yes. The album will be released on the 30th of January.

Who steals God?

There's a funny entry by Sean on CV. Pretty odd.

KATRIN's journey

How do you bring a neutrino spectrometer from Deggendorf in Bavaria to Rossendorf near Karlsruhe? Here (scroll down) are some nice pictures and movies (the last one is better than any Castor transport, notice the guy trying to move the tree)

About

My name is Magdalena Luz. I grew up in Switzerland. I studied physics at Humboldt University Berlin, where I used to live in "Nordkapstrasse" (North Cape street). That's how this blog got its name. After a short intermezzo in Copenhagen, DK, I live now in the amazing city of Wuppertal. This is a place the wild, wild West of Germany, built on 7 hills, (which is really the only thing it has in common with Rome) It is populated by the strange species of homo germanicus occidens communis, also known as 'gemeiner Wessi'. And even with her it is light years away from ever being like Berlin.
